One of the biggest Sports Entertainment promotion across the globe, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is in town these days. That’s right, after a long awaited gap of 13 years, WWE is in the city. This tour has taken India by storm as both shows are sold out at the IGI Stadium, New Delhi. I have been watching Pro-wrestling since I was a kid. The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin & The Undertaker were my favorites and who are still alive, despitebeing buried 2,536 times in the show.
Off late, I was trying to make time to understand this business and what it takes to be a wrestler. The most common things we get to hear is Ohhhh WWE that’s Fake!! Ohhhhh WWE its scripted but there is an X factor about it and hence their flagship weekly show like Monday Night Raw is the longest running weekly episodic TV show with close to 1300 episodes broadcasted all around the world. I don’t have an issue with people who call it fake or scripted, but my question to them is, if it’s fake then every tom, dick & harry can do it and if its scripted please share the scripts with me.
I have been following this extravagant show up-close lately and there are so many things a CA Student can learn from these WWE Superstars. There stories & struggles can alone inspire you on any given day.
1. NEVER GIVE UP
The household name you come across when you talk about WWE is JOHN CENA. A 15-time World Champion has done it all he has all the accolades you can possibly think of and the reason for that is he lives by the motive NEVER GIVE UP!! Many have come and gone but this guy has been there ever since he made his debut in 2002. As sure as a sunrise all through the highs and lows of his career. NEVER GIVE UP is all you need to remember!!
2. Every streak meant to be broken.
There may be a streak of failure results during your CA course but the law of nature is such that every streak is meant to be broken. So did, the Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania was conquered by the Beast BROCK LESNAR. Nobody could believe that this could ever happen, when close to 75,000 in attendance at the Super Dom at New Orleans. All were stunned at WrestleMania 30 when Brock Lesner defeated The Undertaker and broke his streak of 21 straight wins at WrestleMania which was the biggest annual event for WWE. If you have been down and out the only place left to go is up. EAT SLEEP CONQUER REPEAT.
3. The leap of risk
When you enter the CA Course, it’s a big leap of risk which can cement you amongst the best professionals in the country. But you have to take that leap and believe in yourself.
4. Injuries (Austin)
Broken bones, tore muscles and career threatening injuries have all become part of the sporting event but people have come against all odds. The top star guys like Steve Austin & Shawn Michaels have faced career ending injuries even before they got stardom but they had the fight in them, to be the Legends that you know. You might be a topper all your life but CA is a different ball game all together and will test your character in every sense. Its only after all this hardship that you will get this legendary prefix.
5. The Rock (WWE/Hollywood)
If you are good at something, then you should go for it. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who is one of the biggest names in Hollywood and WWE, changed his career from being a Top Superstar in WWE to Hollywood where he has already made a big name for himself. Moral, once you have achieved everything there is in your field, go for what your heart says, you never know what could be in store for you. TaxUp India is all about that.
6. Attitude ahead of size (rey mysterious, Shawn Michaels)
There has been a stereotype that wrestling was a big man’s sport, these were put to rest by men like Shawn Michaels, Rey Meysterio & Daniel Bryan whomade it big despite having a small physical stature. Their attitude towards things was what made them the stars they are now. There are roadblocks in your lives but you have set them all aside to achieve your goals. And like they say it’s not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog that matters.
7. CM Punk
CM Punk “The Best in The World”. He may actually not be the Best in The World as he claims to be, but the fact he believes in himself and backs it with his skills is what makes him the Best in the World. A straightedge superstar who never drinks, smokes, drugs or never takes steroid took this industry by the storm with his cutting edge personality, has lived a disciplined life which has got him success. He has been the longest reigning World Champion of this era. He has taught me to believe in yourself and stand for your principals in life.
8. Only a few make it to the top (Mount Rushmore)
There are thousands of wrestling schools across the globe which train many prospect wrestlers but only a hand full of them to make it to the top because of their hard work. Hard work has always been the key to success and still is. CA fraternity is no different with few million aspirants only and an average of 10% make it. You need not be disheartened cause once you cross the finish line that’s the best feeling ever.
9. Perseverance (Mick Foley)
At times, success is not easy to come by. You might be the hardest working guy around but the results may not be in your favor. But somewhere down the line, you will be rewarded. So is the career of Mick Foley, you may also know him by the name of Mankind who has taken unimaginable bumps, thrown off the 20ft cage, set on fire, thrown on thumb tags, smashed with barb wire and what not. Became the World Champion just once which was a landmark victory in the history of this business. He has also been inducted in the Hall of Fame and is widely regarded as the God of Hardcore. You may be working hard and not finding the right results but perseverance is needed at times.
10. The Boss
Your boss can be cruel, intimidating but he is the one who’s going to make you or break you. No matter how bad he is but the Boss is always right otherwise he’s going to fire you right away.
