Once you have successfully filed your income tax return, you need to verify your income tax return. Without completing verification of your ITR, your ITR will not be processed by the Income Tax department. Post filing your ITR, you get 120 days to verify it.
There are two ways to verify Income Tax Return:
- Download, print and send ITR-V to CPC for physical verification
- Online verification of ITR-V through generation of EVC
Send ITR-V to CPC
If you choose to physically verify your ITR, you can do so by downloading, printing, signing the copy of ITR-V and sending the signed copy to CPC Bangalore.
E-verification of ITR-V through EVC
There are 6 different ways in which you can e-verify your ITR at the Income Tax department’s e-filing portal. For every method, you need to generate an EVC or Electronic Verification Code. This code is used to verify your tax return online.
- EVC generation using email id and mobile number
- EVC generation using Aadhaar card
- EVC generation using netbanking
- EVC generation using ATM
- EVC generation using bank account details
- EVC generation using demat account
E-verify ITR by Generating EVC using Email ID and Mobile Number
This method of e-verifying ITR can only be used if a taxpayer satisfies the following criteria:
- Your income is below Rs. 5,00,000
- You do not have a refund
If you satisfy both the criteria then you can generate an EVC directly on the government’s e-filing website which will be delivered on your mobile number and email id.
Here is how you can do this by following a few simple steps:
Step 1: Click here to visit ITD’s e-filing website.
Step 2: Find “Login Here” button on the top right corner and click on it to login to your account. If you do not have an account, you can click on “Register Yourself” button present just above “Login Here”.
Click here to view a step-by-step guide on the registration process. After registration you can follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 3: After clicking on “Login Here” , provide your “User ID” (i.e. your PAN card number) and “Password” along with the “Captcha Code” in the blanks provided on the following page and click on “Login” .
Step 8: Select the second option named “EVC – To Registered Email Id and Mobile Number” on the pop-up screen. After this, you will receive EVC on your registered mobile number and e-mail id.
