41 years old, Rekha Somani has a distinction of passing CA (Final) examination in May, 2017. It was really a herculean task for a mother of two children to join and become CA in the late age. She joined chartered accountancy course at the age of 37 and completed with 57% marks, despite the fact that she has never been a commerce student earlier. Before joining CA, she did her graduation in 1994 and post graduation in 1996 in Arts stream. In 1997, she also completed M. Phil in economics and in the same year, also passed National Level Eligibility Test (NET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for lectureship in economics.
After a long gap of about 17 years, inspired by her husband Devendra Kumar Somani, who is also a chartered accountant, she joined the CA course. She found the syllabus interesting & knowledge enriching. She scored 60+ marks in 6 subjects as follows: IPCC: Advanced Accounts 73, Income Tax 73, Costing 65, Audit 60; Final: FR 70, SMF 67.
Age was not a bar for her. She maintained a perfect balance between her studies and family, especially when her younger daughter was merely four years old. She prepared and studied at home and exemplified a level of commitment, which can serve as a model for others. She strongly believes that when there is a will there is a way. She considers former Indian President Shri APJ Abdul Kalam Sir and Boxer Mericom as her role models.
